Senior Accountant – SME Business Services, Tax

About the Role

This firm, founded in Melbourne in 2002, specializes in helping businesses in the UK, US, and Australia recruit and onboard offshore talent located in the Philippines. You are invited to join as the inaugural member of a new offshore accounting division, where you will play a foundational role in building team operations. Your work will focus on managing year-end compliance for a group of Australian small and medium-sized enterprises. Working closely with the Director, you will enjoy significant professional independence while handling complex financial tasks, tax strategies, and secretarial duties. You will utilize cutting-edge cloud-based software and AI-integrated systems to enhance accounting workflows within an established organization.

Requirements

• You should possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and have between five and seven years of total professional experience, including at least five years within an Australian public practice setting.
• Demonstrate expert knowledge of Australian tax laws, specifically covering CGT, FBT, Division 7A, and income tax across various entity types.
• You are required to be proficient in Excel at an intermediate or advanced level and maintain deep expertise in Xero.
• Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary for professional client interaction.
• You must be organized and detail-focused, with the ability to independently manage your own timesheets and workload.
• High standards of ethics and data privacy are mandatory.
• Prior experience with BGL CAS 360, BGL Simple Fund 360, Practice Ignition, and Xero Practice Manager is advantageous, as is the possession of professional credentials such as CPA Philippines or CA/CPA ANZ, and an openness to using AI-driven technology.

Responsibilities

• You will draft year-end financial reports and income tax filings for a range of structures, such as sole traders, partnerships, trusts, and companies.
• Your core duties include supervising GST and BAS/IAS reconciliations, as well as managing superannuation reconciliations, FBT returns, and Division 7A loan documentation.
• You are expected to handle SMSF audit packs, member statements, and annual financial reports, in addition to overseeing company records and ASIC annual reviews.
• You will take charge of refining Xero ledgers, setting up Xero Practice Manager systems, and generating proposals via Practice Ignition.
• Your tasks will also include drafting correspondence for clients, maintaining organized workpaper documentation, and conducting ATO pre-lodgement reviews.
• Beginning in your third month, you will assist in integrating AI-powered transaction coding and bookkeeping solutions into existing workflows.
